Pane e Pomodoro

Pane e Pomodoro (Bread and Tomatoes) portrays the beaches of Bari (Apulia region, Italy) where every summer dozens of families travel to celebrate the ‘holiday ritual’. Pane e Pomodoro is an Italian burlesque theatre, a tragicomic play where each characters’ role is rooted in their identities; it portrays the middle-class Italian stereotype, the one that accepts – and appreciates – anything that is undemanding and not too challenging. Characters in search of an author, attention-seeking comedians that shamelessly and scornfully show off their genuine nature. Pane e Pomodoro is an anthropological reportage, the author observes and records all the peculiarities, bad habits and virtues of the modern “Italian mammal”, wondering about the contradiction between repulsion and sympathy that arise from the sight of this Theatre of the Absurd.
