Compagnia della Fortezza

The Compagnia della Fortezza is a 3-year documentation work on the theatrical company of the prison of Volterra, in Tuscany, Italy, which for 30 years has been preparing shows that are performed inside the prison for external spectators, as well as in Italian theatres with inmates-actors who have temporary permission to leave. Leading them is Armando Punzo, a director who has dedicated his entire career to this project, and has become a reference point of national and international fame for all directors involved in prison theatre and theatre in general. The company of prison actors is made up of a group of people who found themselves forced to stay together by condition, but who by choice decided to get together and collaborate to create something beautiful and constructive together.
