Gabriele Micalizzi is an Italian photojournalist. He collaborates with national and international media outlets such as The New York Times, Corriere della Sera, Espresso, Internazionale, and The Wall Street Journal. His works focuses on the social condition of people and their relationship with the territory in which they live. He is one of the founders of Cesura. In 2011 he started documenting all the events related to the Arab Spring. He has been sponsored by Leica since 2016 and is the first winner of Master of Photography, the European photographic Talent Show. In November 2016, Micalizzi showcased DOGMA, his work on the Libyan war. In 2019, during the Kurdish offensive in the Baghuz area against the last ISIS stronghold, he was wounded by an RPG rocket. After the accident, he covered the arrival of Turkish troops in Lybia in 2020, sent to help President Al-Sarraj during General Haftar’s attack.
During the Covid-19 pandemic in Italy he documented the areas with the highest number of cases in northern Italy, following doctor Cavanna’s work in the countryside of Piacenza. The photos have been published on Time Magazine, Le Monde, VICE USA and Internazionale.
